Elections called for crisis-ridden Aenderia

Aenderian Acting Presydent Horatio Eden announced last night that an election timetable had been approved by the ALC – the Aenderian legislature – setting a formal date for elections to the Presydency, the Vice Presydency, and the ALC.

Aenderian Acting Presydent Horatio Eden announced last night that an election timetable had been approved by the ALC – the Aenderian legislature – setting a formal date for elections to the Presydency, the Vice Presydency, and the ALC.

This comes as the administration’s solution to days and days of debate over Eden’s legitimacy as Acting Presydent.

Eden maintains that his Presydency was approved by the ALC’s decision to strip his predecessor, Russell Gilzem, temporarily from office.

Gilzem’s camp objects that the original motivation for removing him from office – allegations of voter fraud surrounding the election that originally won Eden the Vice Presydency – was proven false in court and that consequently the legal basis for his removal is undermined.

The election will take place on the 20th of October, 2018, and will end at midnight Eastern Time on the 21st. Eden has already announced that he will be seeking election to the Presydency in his own right, alongside his running mate, William Efton. Gilzem has registered for the election, though it is unclear who his running mate is.

Eden’s campaign is presently dogged by allegations of sedition and voter intimidation in the run-up to and consequently to the 2018 Vice Presydential election that brought him initially to power. The Attorney General of Aenderia accuses him of conspiring with Efton to undermine the then-administration of Russell Gilzem, as well as bribing votes in the ALC to ensure Gilzem’s being brought down. Eden denies the allegations, and has plead not guilty in court.

Presydent Gilzem, meanwhile, is facing a battle of his own – but his is with popular opinion. Per the Aenderian News Network, he is currently sitting at an approval rating of 25.3% (Eden’s ratings have not been polled). A further, non-scientific poll found 62.5% of the public approved of Eden’s claim to the presidency, while 38.5% approved of Gilzem’s. The 25.3% poll published by ANN – which has not been independently verified by the Daily Micronational – comes after Presydent Gilzem released a statement in which he implored people not to “let my approval ratings drop” and insisted that he was producing a reform act that would “change Aenderia forever”. According to ANN, the Gilzem camp referred to it as a “courageous act pulled by Presydent Gilzem proving to the people that he can change”. The full statement can be read on ANN’s website.

The Daily Micronational will commence polling in the coming days and make a call of their predicted winner of this tranche of elections when a few cycles have been allowed to pass. The Conservative Party of Aenderia, fronted by Acting Presydent Eden, has announced it will be submitting candidates for the ALC.

In related news, Acting Presydent Eden has appointed Gilzem, as well as William Efton and Speaker of the House Jayden Lycon to serve as his delegation to the Micronational Statistics Bureau following a successful vote by the ALC to join the organisation.
