Eden Publishing, the holding company for the Daily Micronational in Abelden, was given a grant of 5,000 Trimoles, the local currency, to expand its operations.
The grant was issued by the Abeldane Ministry of Commerce; Eden Publishing originally applied for a grant of T15,000, which the Ministry declined. The Daily Micronational commented that it intends to use the funds within Abelden to expand its organisation horizontally, expand its advertising campaigns and take on additional writers and other staff such as legal counsel. It is has also indicated an interest outside of journalism in terms of diversifying its financial portfolio by investing in other industries and corporations.
Horatio Eden, the head of the Daily Micronational, also serves as Attorney-General, and his office declined to comment on the transaction. The Ministry of Commerce has announced it intends to “conduct… checks to ensure that the funds are spent appropriately”.
